The Camper's Code
Here at Camp Cooinda we are dedicated to providing an excellent summer camp experience for our campers that meet our objectives – to provide challenging outdoor activities, to help people experience cooperative relationships, to provide opportunities to develop initiative and high self-esteem, to provide a space to reflect on personal values, and to provide enjoyment.
As a family, please read and discuss The Camper’s Code outlined below prior to coming to camp. Where behaviour exhibited on the camp program is not in line with the information below, the Camp Director and Program Directors will discuss the behaviour with the camper and their parent / guardian. Each situation is evaluated on its own merit and reports will be used to document inappropriate behaviour. Recurring or severe behaviour may lead to dismissal from camp with no refund.
I want to be a camper at Camp Cooinda this summer!
I understand that:
- The camp is organised in groups with everyone sharing in activities and the jobs that need to be done.
- The leaders volunteer their time to help campers enjoy the outdoor activities and they also look forward to enjoying the experiences themselves.
- Camp Cooinda aims to be an inclusive space that welcomes people from diverse backgrounds, genders, physical abilities, and sexualities, and that all attendees are required to accept, respect and value each other.
- The safety and enjoyment of all campers and volunteer leaders is our top priority.
I agree that during camp I will:
RESPECT
- Be respectful, cooperative and contribute positively to the experience of fellow campers.
- Respect and cooperate with the leaders in a friendly way.
- Be careful and considerate that my actions will not hurt another camper’s feelings or hurt them physically, either intentionally or accidentally.
- Respect the rights and beliefs of others and treat others with courtesy and consideration.
- Be respectful of all camp property, equipment, supplies, and the surrounding environment. I will not mark, deface, or destroy camp or personal property.
SAFETY
- Wear appropriate clothing around camp each day, including close toed shoes and SunSmart clothing.
- Pay attention to my surroundings and use care in all activities.
- Follow the directions of leaders about safety matters, including boating, swimming, and fire.
BEHAVIOUR
- Do a fair share of jobs that keep the camp running smoothly.
- Conduct myself responsibly. I understand that rough physical play, inappropriate touching, sexual behaviour between campers, unwelcome teasing, bullying or any unkind behaviour is not allowed and will not be tolerated.
- Communicate in an appropriate manner, which means I will not use swear words, offensive language, tell inappropriate jokes, use inappropriate gestures, or harsh words. I will not raise my voice or use verbal threats of any kind.
GENERAL
- Participate in activities to the best of my ability.
- Place ALL electronic (e.g. phones, headphones, iPads etc.), valuable (e.g. purse/wallet, jewellery etc.), or dangerous (e.g. knives, axes etc.) items in the camp bank at the start of camp.
- Make a reasonable effort go to sleep at lights out as requested by leaders.
- Not bring alcohol, illicit drugs, cigarettes or vapes to camp.
I understand that Camp Cooinda is committed to being a safe place for me and other campers, and that I can speak to any leader if I feel unsafe or uncertain and will be taken seriously.
